Morning all,
I've just bought my 1st Dexta diesel to go with my Power Major. She's got a standard clutch. Is it possible to convert them to live drive buy swapping the clutch maybe plus some bits? Or are they like the E1a Majors and you have to fit a complete live drive gearbox and clutch?
Thanks.

Re: PM Temp Gauge
Hi,
That screws into a threaded hole in the top left-hand side of the cylinder head, not far from the thermostat housing.

Could I be really cheeky and ask for an indication of what they might charge for a full recon of the pump?

Re: PTO selector seal
Are you driving something through the old seal to pull it out? What kind of sealer do you use? Something like Hylomar blue or one that goes off solid?

PTO selector seal
Evening gents, So one of the seals (one of the few didn't replace) I thought looked fine and reused has failed. So I need to replace the seal that the PTO selector plunger travels through. Is it just a case of dropping the oil, pulling the pin that holds the linkage to the plunger and then undoing t...

Re: Power Major Clutch Won't Disengage.
58vintage says he got a complete assembly with the new cover plate and it worked well. However, it appears that I'll be the guinea pig on building this one up with new parts. I'll revisit this thread after it's done and let you know how it goes. Hopefully I will remember to take pics to post. Does ...

Re: Power Major Clutch Won't Disengage.
Whirly, I have the new type modified 2 stage clutch from Agriline. Everything looks more resistant to wear and damage, It's great I've put about 40 hours of mixed work through it, ploughing, topping with 6ft and 9ft mowers, on our big windrower and road work with a trailer on. Much easier to set up ...

Re: Hydralic pump Q.
Just a thought after you give her a good hard workout, if she does smoke when not under load and low rpm, white or a light grey some numpty before you may have been playing with the fuel screw in the pump. Causing her to be unable to burn all the fuel she's getting and unburnt fuel tends to come out...

Re: Hydralic pump Q.
Hi RH, I had the same problem as you with black gunge coming out of the exhaust, mine was after a full rebuild where even the block water ways and rad were pro cleaned. I was just not maintaining a high enough running temp to insure a constantly clean burn. I fitted the hotter 82℃ thermostat instead...

Re: Rebuilding a fuel injection pump
Crikey Rick, that was a close call. I would never have thought a bearing could fly out like that just with a puller. I have found this thread very interesting and I did not realise the pressures that these pumps can generate, it is quite frightening really. I wonder what pressures the common rail d...

Re: Rebuilding a fuel injection pump
Oehrick, that is exactly one of the reasons I posted. Fordson 60. Whilst this comment is not directed at you personally I have to pick up on you saying you'd think someone who'd pull an injector pump apart would know what it's capable of. I would say the majority have no clue in the UK at least, the...

Re: Rebuilding a fuel injection pump
If you are going to use the injectors to test the delivery quantities please be careful as although they aren't running at the 2500bar that cp3 is running at you could still get nasty injuries like diesel under the skin etc at this systems 200bar. As a side note when we test the modern commonrail pu...

Re: Rebuilding a fuel injection pump
The Nozzle changed on the injectors to. Earlier ones had nozzle NL144 and later ones definitely by power major had NL123 nozzles. They have different orifice sizes and different spray angles. The latter having a smaller orifice to give a more atomised stream and hence better more complete burn and m...

Many thanks gents.
Oehrick, talking of the former colonies I did wonder if given the UK BREXIT vote and their limited options for president, if they might decide to come back under the protection of the crown. With her most Royal Britanic Majesty appointing a governor for the Americas' again.

Bolt Size
Afternoon all,
I've bought a tool box for my FPM. Could anyone tell me the size on the bolt needed for the threaded holes in the engine block it bolts to? Also are they UNF or UNC?
Thanks.

I could be interested if you are willing to lift them onto a pallet and let me send a courier to get them. How difficult is it to obtain the bolts etc, they are special ones aren't they?

Re: Extra Treadplates
Ahh thanks for that info Brian. I wonder if I can utilise the holes that the main treadplates bolt into? After all this prepwork and paint I wouldn't mind protecting the brake trumpets from my flipper feet. Just as a thought does anyone know why they were deleted? Not a popular option, or they chang...

Thanks Henk,
Mine is missing some holes then. Mine have the drain holes in the "bend" and the holes in the bottom short piece of metal but not the ones in the vertical piece.

Extra Treadplates
Morning all, I've picked up a pair of the little extra teadplates for my FPM, the ones that I believe cover the brake drum trumpets. They have come pre drilled to take the mounting bolts but I cannot for the life of me work out where to bolt them on. I'm starting to think they may have been drilled ...

Re: First Failure?
Maybe I'm just lucky with cooling but I definitely needed the hotter stat to get anything like a good running Temp and to stop my fordson slobber. Like Adrian said though it is fresh out of rebuild. Having had the Rad pro refurbished, block sent away, cleaned, new hoses and a new water pump. I'd sti...

Re: First Failure?
Thanks for that Oehrick. I tried to simplify my A level physics knowledge it looks like not overly successfully, whilst trying to remember it to. lol. Pavel I would have to respectively disagree with a 181℉ being to hot. Pure water boils at 100℃ unless the tractor is located at a good altitude. The ...

Re: First Failure?
That would be true as temperature and pressure are closely linked. When you increase one you increase the other untill the weakest link in the system fails. With a no pressure rad cap which in truth probably allows a couple of Lb of force. You could apply a temp change that would cause a 50 psi incr...

Problem fixed with any luck. Put a 181℉ thermostat in and its now reaching middle of the blue section with a 9ft topper on the back for 3hrs.
