Hydraulic lift height - continued

To continue... Having had to take the top cover off to the adjust the hydraulics as Brian suggested, I was met by clay coloured custard! It appears that one of the rear axle casings was not machined perfectly and dust and water had got in over many years where the gasket was not pinched. It was a re...

Thanks Jack and Gerry.
Jack confirms that if it leaks it needs fixing regardless of the inner seal and Gerry, that sounds like it will do the job for me too.

I was thinking of using some long studding with a plate on the end of the half shaft if it wont knock off.

Rear hub oil seal.

I replaced one rear hub seal and bearing 20 years ago but did not have the benefit of these pages and did not realise there was an inner axle casing hub seal. Older and wiser now ! If that axle casing seal is not working well it stands to reason the hub seal works overtime to cope. Mine leaks slight...

Hydraulic lift height

Thanks Brian, that is conclusive. ' I'm going in'. While I am in there, as things are at present, if I have a pick-up hitch on (it came from a Fergy TE20), I have to let the arms down a bit to get the auxillary service to work the tipping trailer. This is not ideal because it lowers the hook in the ...

Hydraulic lift height

There is lots of information on adjustment of the hydraulics, but I am reluctant to go in there without good reason..... if it aint broke, dont fix it ! My 62 standard Dexta hydraulics seem to do all I want with one problem. They dont lift high enough. If I unbolt the outside of the quadrant and ope...

Dexta heavy steering

Just an update.

Did not really find anything significant, all bearings is good shape so re-assembled and adjusted tracking, also increased tyre pressures. Seems better but heavier than I remember. I will give it a good workout shortly and see how it is then.

Dexta heavy steering.

Gentlemen, Thank you each for your replies. I think Rick has the solution and a strip down of the king pins and inspection of the thrust bearing (or not) is where I will start, makes sense. Brians observation on the tracking marks is interesting and certainly worth checking, but I have standard tyre...

Dexta heavy steering

The steering on my Dexta is very heavy (hard to turn) harder to the left than to the right. I can tinker with most things and have done all my own vehicle maintenance for the last 50+ years but can make no sense of this. Its a 62 model, and as part of a gradual restoration I replaced the steering bo...
