Oil Filter housing assembly question

Post by Jm-baker »

Hi,

I have a 1952 Fordson Major Diesel.

I took the oil filter out yesterday and it seems to me that it was not installed correctly or a part is missing. I have the housing cylinder, long bolt that goes through the assembly and a spring.

I can't see how the oil filter seals at the bottom around the bolt shaft, is there a piece missing that would go on the spring?

If anyone has a diagram or explanation or photo of how the filter assembly goes together i would appreciate it.

Thanks

Found this, very helpful, looks like im missing the parts between the filter and spring.

Does anyone know where i might get items 19 and 20 from the right image.

Hi Jim, there are parts manuals on the home page of this site, I beleive shows all parts. I also go to New Holland web site and look at parts there, there are great printouts of parts there. Look up fordson and you will get a choice to which year you have, lots of good info there with part numbers. I print out the parts I need and go to local new holland store and they can usually get what I need. I believe if you have a '52 then it will be the longer filter. Good luck.

Hi
the parts that are missing are not available new I looked on the ford parts site the other day for Colobio, you either have to find used or make the parts up. There are a couple of different styles of filter. some parts do not inter change. If you are not needing to keep the tractor original you could by a complete used unit, There are 2 types of filter long or short. You should have the long type.
Colobio has a post on here maybe a month ago from when he made up his missing parts it has pretty good pictures of what he did.
