Please can someone tell my why the position of the inlet on the fuel pump on my FMD is different to all other photos of fuel pumps on this model. Including the photos in the workshop manual.
It is like i have an adaptor on the pump that others dont? Rather than going in the side of the pump, it is on top.
You can see the new pipe i purchased is the conventional shape.
Hi
That pump is a very early one from around 1952 it has 4 bolts on the side cover the newer ones had 8. I worked on one here in Canada about 2 months ago that was the first one I had seen on any majors I had worked with .
where your pipe goes in the pump there is or should be a gauze filter in that housing under the inlet fitting. to get at it you unscrew the end cap there is 2 holes for a pin wrench to go in( I didnt have the wrench so used a punch and hammer it was tight, and I do not recomend this method to remove the plug its your choice ) . the later pumps dont have this filter and the fuel intakes like you see in the pictures and instruction book.
