Hi, my handbrake on my major is missing the lever, but i have tried putting a metal rod through the hole to see if it works, and it doesnt. How do the handbrakes work on these tractors? Also, where is this picture taken from? Can you see in through the gearstick hole?
Oh yay, look, another seized bolt! Lets get a hammer.....and some kano.....and some cider!
The transmission handbrake works by having seven fixed discs and five rotating discs interleaved on one of the transmission shafts. When the handbrake is applied the discs are squeezed together and the fixed discs stop the rotating discs from turning. As can be seen from the picture, I only have five of the fixed discs and none of the rotating ones Probably because at some time the tractor was driven with the handbrake on and ruined the discs which were removed and not replaced.
The picture was taken down through the hole under the primary gearlever housing while a light was shone down the hole under the steering box.
