Hi
I have recently bought an engine with a FL head and Minimec injection pump. This engine was taken from a Major or a Power Major.
The serial no S554163, casting codes on the engine block is reading FoMoCo and 11 7 66 and on the engine head is 13167.
I assume the engine is produced around 1967.
A few things make this engine different from my other engines:
1) There is no ventilation on the timing cover
2) The suction tube end on the ventilation cover is missing
3) The air filter have the inlet underneath the hood
4) Front mounting plate is missing the bent parts for mounting to the frame. Instead a bracket is screwed on each side
Since I assume this engine is newer than those delivered with the tractors, are this changes part of a devolpment of the engine, or is simply because the engine is put together of bits and pieces from various engines over a periode of time?
Are this type of Front Mounting Plate designed for generators etc, or are they strong enough for tractors?
The rear end of this tractor is located in Norway, and I think the owner want to send it to the scrapyard.
Ferrys nearby to Denmark and England.

Re: Engine with FL head
Sounds like you have an industrial engine, confirmed by the"S" in the number. It is a New Performance based unit and you would need to swap front plate etc from your tractor.
Problem on the front plate would be if you had the early three bolt fixing cam shaft and horse shoe thrust washer. The later single bolt fixing cam would need a front plate from a NP tractor engine as the thrust washer is part of the plate.

Re: Engine with FL head
I know it's an old post but thought I could add some details. the engine is August 66, looks like its head was replaced. It's an industrial engine, the mounting plate is 591E-6030B, with the brackets added on being 591E-6031C and 591E-6060C, and this was actually made to fit Major's, as these were the only engines available as complete replacements. The camshaft will be 528E-6250D, and the rockers will be 590E-6468 and 590E-6469, with rocker cover 563E-6449 (decompressor) or 591E-6449. The intake manifold will be 530E-9428, the air filter 528E-9600, its bracket 528E-9623 and the delivery valves will be 510E-993227. These are the main differences with a regular tractor engine, most of them coming straight from Thames Trader's except the mounting plate and rocker cover. If it has a breather connection near the air filter it'll be 528E-6449, or 502E-6449 with decompressor. Tractors used rocker covers E1ADKN-6449, E1ADKN-6449B, E1ADN-6449 and 592E-6449B except decompressor fitted ones, they used from 1290291 E1ADDN-6449, E1ADDN-6449B, E1ADDN-6449C and E1ADDN-6449D. Looks like it has a Mk1 timing cover.
