Power Major Brake Drums Binding

Post by JLworld »

Hi,

I have put some new brake shoes and springs on both sides of my Power Major.

One side is perfect

The other is binding on the top shoe every whole evolution.

I have tried swapping the drums both ok on one side both dragging/ binding on the other.

I have taken them apart and swapped the springs over I’ve also swapped the shoes over no difference.

Could it be that the back plate is worn?

Any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks

Will

Did you back off the expander? A full adjustment should be made, centralising the anchor pin and adjusting the adj¡ustable steady posts, not complicated but necessary when doing such a job. The back plate won't be worn, there's nothing really to wear on it. But do check it's not damaged. Do you mean one rev of the bull pinion or wheel? In any case these adjustments are needed on both brakes.
