Maybe a silly question......

While all my majors' injectors are being serviced and i cant work them, i decided to try and sort out a few nigling things. The first is, are you supposed to be able to change gear whilst on the move, i.e 3rd to 5th? Also, since i re-built the engine, im not sure the oil guage is working properly. Before, it would rise and fall slightly with the revs, as expected, but now it goes up to about 40psi whether idling or revving?

It's only a silly question if you dont ask it :D

The gearbox is not a syromesh box, so the asnwer is no. SOMETIMES you may be able to slip it through no worries. Will depend on speed of tractor, speed of changing gear, revs etc,
Most of my 'changing on the move' is between gears 3rd & 4th, or 1st & 2nd, or 5th & 6th (using the high/low lever)

You changing from 3rd to 5th would involve changing your main gear lever, and your high/low lever.

Thats good that you have constant oil pressure now. Before the rebuild, your oil pump and bearings were probably all been showing signs of wear(increased tolarences equals lower pressure) Oil was probably older also. No doubt you would have put new oil into the rebuilt engine. The pressure relief valve is probably releaseing any pressure over 40 psi. The old engine was probably not getting enought pressure to trip thr release valve.

ideal, well thats put my mind at rest a bit, at least it seems to be functioning at the moment. i have got to change the rear pto seal as oil comes out when it is engaged, from what ive read its a fairly easy thing to replace. If i need a speedy sleeve, who sells them in the uk?
