my npsm had no balls in arms when i bought it, it has the arms that need clips to retain the balls.
i have purchased the cat1/ cat2 dual balls and clip set from agriline, but i cannot work out how to fit them.
does anyone have a picture of these fitted, or know the correct fitting methods.
i will post some pics of the old girl when the brakes are reassembled and i can drive it to a suitable spot.

Have the same problem with my 1961 Super Major.
Each arm has a hole in which is spherical, like the inside of a ball. The outside of the arms has a groove in it with a small drilled hole, presumably to retain the clip.
The parts CD shows part number E1ADDN 995242 described as retainer and spring assembly , but it doesn't look like a spring.
Do we need something else apart from the ball and spring retainer?

my arms have the same end as yours but the only place for a clip is on the outer side of the arm where there is just a small square or metal 10mm x 10mm, this square has a small retaining lip on the side nearest the ball.
possible they are the wrong arms, but i am inclined to think they are original.
how many types of arms where fitted to majors and what years approx, mine is a 1964.

Here is a photo of the outside of a lower lift arm. Sorry about the poor quality, it was cropped from a larger photo.
The arm has the 10 mm lump on the arm that you mentioned. There is a groove to the top and bottom of the arm. The lower is visible, the upper is obscured by the rope.
Majors and Power Majors had lower arms which had captive balls both ends.
The Super Major and NPSM had a different back end. Their arms had a captive ball at the tractor end, and a removable ball at the implement end.
What happened when you tried to fit the ball to the arm? Was it a snug fit, or did it pass right through?

Thanks for the photograph Henk. So the balls fit in from the outside, are retained on the inside by the arm, and on the outside by the retaining clip.
Looks like you insert the balls with the flattened ends against the grooves / ridges. Push fully in and rotate to retain the balls in position. then fit the clip. Photograph makes all the difference.

anybody able to give me measurement from centre of front eye to centre of rear eye,
also from front eye to each of the lift arm holes.

Hi all , The problem you can find is the end of the arm is worn where the ball sits and it wont stay in even with the clip .I had this problem on one of my supers but i was able to find some arms that were not worn after along search..All I had to get was the two clips and linkage balls.The original clips have a rubber pad moulded into them which sits tight to the ball to hold it in place but I dont think they are available now.

thanks guys my arms are on the wrong side as retainer lumps are facing out, and the holes for the clips are full of junk or snapped clip so i did see that there should be any holes.

Depending on your tractors use (original parts only show tractor or work horse) you can buy replacement weld-on ends for lower links.
Thanks to these photos, I now know my lower links are Super Major ones.

If it's a Major than it's cat 2. For a Dexta it will be cat 1.

First I need to install my Clear Hooters Signal... Then I got to check behind my Power Major and see if my balls are still there.... What ever happend to Benny Hill? Loved his humor. I can see him now walking around a Fordson Major, following the Farmers daughter, and doing his thing.

Maybe someday we can all get together at a Fordson Rally. I've never been to Merry Old England, but I think it would be fun to meet Brian, and the rest of you forum guys someday at a forum get together. Trouble is, we're spread all over the world. Dandy Dave!
