Hi, looking for some help, the power steering has stopped working on my County Super 4

Would it be the pump or the ram

Would anyone know where I could get a hold of a workshop manual for the ram

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Keith

When rams fail they leak oil, so my guess is it is the pump/

Its probably not the pump, they are pretty tough. You might want to check the filter in the pump reservoir, that's probably not it, but I always like to check the easy things first. The cylinder is the same or very similar to the Major ones. I can copy a couple of pages out of my Major shop manual,if you need me to. When you see how many parts it has, you may want to take it to a hydraulic shop :)

Double acting rams will quite often just leak past the piston seals internally and never leak outside. These rams also have integral control valves, which is where the problem could be.

That is what was wrong with my power major. The control valve in the cylinder stuck from sitting around. I pulled the cylinder apart, carefully freed the stuck parts, and got new seals from my local hydraulic shop. Put it back together and has worked beautifully since. Dandy Dave!

I was going to email the pages to you, but they looked distorted when I tried it, so I'll just post the links to them here instead.
