Probably a question you have all had before...but i,m trying to get the proof meter back in action on my 58 power major, got the angle drive (which works) but i need to remove the steering wheel to release the meter....The wheel is original and although has seen better days, i don't really want to replace it. I want to keep it in character with the rest of the rusty hulk. so.....what the best way to remove it without destroying some of the soft moulding that still survives, i have tried gently heat and a very moderate pull with a sharp tap , a diesel bath with putty to soak it for a few weeks, but no luck.

Any ideas?
