E1A Major Casting dates - final drive housing?

Hi,

I'm trying to photograph the casting dates on my major so I can get an age related plate - I've been told I need the engine number and the casting numbers from the gearbox and final drive housing, I think I've got the first two but cannot see a casting date on the final drive housing - where should I be scrubbing the dirt off to see it???

Also, I notice the cylinder block engine number space under the 1st injector seems to be completely blank, but there is an engine number next to the starter motor (pics below) is this normal?

The engine number dates it to Nov'52, the gearbox is N5T so 5th Nov'52 and the casting date under the seat is N6T so 6th Nov'52.

Cheers,
Dan.

The casting code for the rear axle is near the l/h brake, as you sit on the seat. The serial number on tractors up to 1954 was the one you have found. On Fordson tractors, the serial number and the engine number are the same, there is not a seperate engine number like there is on Nuffield tractors, for example.

You will also find a block casting number above the dynamo and under the manifold, a further date is stamped on the cylinder head between rocker cover and manifold.

She was built a few months after my Henrietta who is September 1952.

Thanks Brian - I found it where you said under the dirt - M14T or October 14th, so 3 weeks older than the other casting dates I found.

The guy I bought it from has one from August '52 which had the earlier down swept exhaust.

Regards,
Dan.
