I have started a new topic to keep from totally hijacking the power steering one. I appreciate all the information provided already. Does anyone have any photos, dimensions, or other information that might allow me to replace the missing 'Deflection Limiting Strap" on my FSM with the Ford 712 Super Duty loader? The normal front engine supports are not used and from the parts book illustration it looks like this strap goes from side-to-side under the oil pan (sump). There seems to be some sort of plate on the strap and a pad between it and the sump. I can not tell anything about how big it is or how it interfaces with the sump.I have not seen anything on this arrangement except the parts illustration in the several years that I have been working on this tractor with its severely damaged frame and attachment parts.

Would it be possible to post the pictures from your parts book re this interesting topic.

Here is a picture I took of mine. I will take a different one next month when I get back up to the tractor. I think Don is talking about the two "ears" that are hanging down in the darker , upper part of this photo ? And the strap that goes between them ?

Yes, those are the parts that are missing from my tractor.

I have scanned the revelant pages from the 712 Loader parts manual and will try to post them. It may take me a while as I have not posted photos on this forum and have not posted them anywhere for quite a while. I am not sure whether I still have a photo hosting account anywhere.

Here's a picture of one that I have. I'll try to get some measurements in the next couple days, if I can remember where I stored it

Thanks for the photo JC. That sure looks like my missing part. I had no idea any still existed. If you find it and wish to sell it I would be interested. I am located in East Central Alabama, USA. Do you have any knowledge of the bracket and pad that went between that part and the oil pan/sump?

I didn't forget about you, Don, I just haven't found the part yet. When I find it, I don't know if I will sell it or not. I have a Major with a loader & backhoe on it. Whoever put them on did a really bad job. I was going to put them on a 5000, but I ended up not buying it. I will probably mount the hoe & loader on the Major the right way and I may need that engine cradle.
When I find it, I will post some measurements. It should be fairly easy to make one for your tractor.

Thanks for the update, JC. I can fabricate the strap from measurements. I still don't know just how the other two parts go between the strap and the sump. My installation was not very good either, they apparently moved the parts from another tractor without getting everything that was needed. I had severely broken, reinforced, welded, and rebroken frame rails. Most of the attaching bolts had been stripped, tapped oversize and then restripped. Some bolt heads had been tack welded to keep them from falling out. My frames and backhoe have a lot of added reinforcing welded on. I get the idea that this machine was a bit too powerful for its strength and it obviously has led a rough life. Luckily the basic tractor is in pretty good shape, the only damage seems to be at the rear wheel lugs. Both wheels and axles have been repaired.

Thanks, those are really good photos. I think those parts could be reproduced pretty closely from those photos and a few dimensions. It looks like the part with the tabs is possibly secured to the oil pan with some sort of pad between them. I have not noticed any bolt holes or other securing method in the bottom of the pan so maybe it is not fastened. If not, I don't see what keeps the upper parts in place against the pan. The second picture clearly shows a mark where the tab has moved along the strap so there is some relative motion involved and I would not think rubbing the pan would be a good idea.
