I have a 1963 "new performance" type super major, I am wondering were this "new performance" part of the name has come from as grey/blue supers were never sold as "new performance" just "new" so I'm just curios as to were this name has come from or why there refered to as "new performance" super majors ?! Thanks. Michael

The name comes from Ford, that is what we sold them as to distinguish them from the earlier Super. They were more hp and with the"double acting" lift with a drop control.
As far as I know it was "official".
I seem to remember an advert that went "New Super Major, New Performance"!

Ahh I see, yeh I had a feeling might be something to do with the fact it had a few upgrades from the first super majors. thanks for that, you've answered a long-running question of mine !
