I removed the sump on my 1960 FPM yesterday. As expected there was a lot of black sludge in it. I also discovered thar the oil screen filter had fallen off the suction pipe an was lying in the bottom of the sump. Looking in the parts list on this website, at least it seems I don't miss any parts The sreen has 2 slots in it on top and the pipe has 2 tabs bent on it. Is the spring on the pipe supposed to lock the screen? My spring looked too short and not "loaded" enough to keep the screen from falling off.
Hi
The suction filters on those tractors are a pain. most of the time they fall off when removing the oil pan, to fit them you line the grooves and pegs up then push the filter up and turn it half a turn, the spring only holds it down to the bottom of the pan when its fitted from my understanding and how light the spring is. when the motor runs the filter vibrates round and if the slots line up it falls off when you take the oil pan off.
when you put the pan back on be very carefull that the filter slides back up the pipe in the correct position, if not and a guy uses a jack to push the pan back it can bend or split the suction pipe and you have no oil pressure and seize the motor .
