Head Light

Hello to all. I'm trying to remove the front cover to my Power Major front head light. Bottom unscrewed fine but top will not release, seems there is a pin there and I can move it from side to side. Never have removed the front lights and don't want to force the top and break something. Thanks for any advice on how it will come off.

If it's anything like mine, you undo the bottom screw, swing the bottom of the rim out about 40 or 50 degrees then push the top of the rim down to unclip it.

Thanks Pavel, I was able to get it apart, it lifts ups as you say and there is a clip at top you have to get out of a slot. I have gotten the light out, hope to be able to get all the clips back in when I'm ready to put it back together. I'm working on trying to get some of the rust on my Power Major under control, engine repainted, bonnett and nose cone primed and wanted to get some paint inside the light fixtures also. I have some rubber gasket material and hope it will work as a seal on glass to keep water out. Any other ideas on this since I don't think you would be able to find the seals for the lights.
Again thanks for the info.

If your lights are original Butlers like my Power Major, it seems to me that the seals were originally cork. Just get a sheet of rubberized cork from you local auto part store and cut them out. Dandy Dave!

I had the same problem on my SMD - water ingress which rusted the reflectors. Got myself a couple of 4inch sealed beam light units and, with a little fettling of the rims, managed to fit them. Problem sorted.

My lights have the original flat glass lenses. Are the sealed beams convexed, or do they fit under the original flat glass? Dandy Dave!

Thanks everyone. Yea D D, mine are the butlers and looked to be old cork seals I cleaned out. Has anyone ever used o-ring as replacement? Looks like that may also work. The inside of lights looks to be in great shape considering over 50 years old, reflectors have lost some chrome. I bought some chrome paint but not sure if I should use this on the reflectors. I'll try to put up some pics at some point for others to see. Any advice is always appreciated.
Thanks
Gerald
