Major Hydraulics

Post by curtsat15 »

Can anyone point me to a schematic of the hydraulic system of the Power Major? I think mine have been monkeyed around by my Uncle, who had borrowed it from my Dad for a couple years and really did a real number on some stuff. The lift and 3 point all work fine, but I would like to have the auxiliary hydraulics working properly, as I'm buying a 12 foot cultivator for it this fall. My real concerns are this: 1: There is a short lever and a valve under the seat, what are these for? 2: The return line for the aux hydraulics is obviously not the correct part, as it is a clear hard plastic pipe, looks like low pressure 3/4" water pipe, and is cracked. What is the correct return line type? Thanks for any help you fine fellows can give!

Could you give us a picture.
The Power had no extra short lever and a valve under the seat. Could be a self made.
You have an auxiliary connection on the left of the unit but it will only work with the 3p lever giving oil to both of the ports at the same time.
An original auxiliary unit has the same lever and goes in front of the hydraulic unit, with no cover plate.
Kind regards, Henk

Ahhh Yesss. Sounds like you have the DAR valve like my Power Major. Best to replace the cracked fittings with black iron, and the hoses to the plug in ports, if I remember right, are also 1/2 inch pipe thread. I believe I posted photos of mine not long ago on here.

Thanks, Robert, I had forgotten about that. Thinking this is a double acting system, as there are to hoses for the auxiliary hydraulics. Going to the farm day after tomorrow and will take a better look and some decent pictures. Going to bring the old girl home for the winter so I can get some serious work done on her. The farm is 12 miles away, and with other responsibilities out there, it doesn't leave a lot of time for the Major.

Hi
its exactly what i described to you in the other forum and the same set up as mine, just replace the return hose with a rubber hydraulic return hose from a tractor or hyd supply company. then open the tap put the lift lever to the top of its guide and put a pin through the hole to hold the lever in constant pump, the hitch arms will go right up ( the pto has to be in gear to run the lift and spool) then use the spool control lever to feed the connectors on the back to raise the cultivator you buy.
Regards Robert :)

Thanks Robert! Will do at my first opportunity. I'm going to drive the old girl home in a couple weeks so I can work on it at my leisure. Dad has our 2N mutt at the farm for his mowing and blading needs. Should be a fun 12 mile ride!
