When did live drive become optional on the majors?

Hi I have had majors pre power with live drive so as an educated guess 1957 or 58 as the power came in during 58.

The Parts Manual shows that the date the Live clutch Assy (E1ADDN-7550C) started was "3/57/". The same date is on the Live clutch pressure plate (E40-GC-9).
