Hej!
Are there someone who now if the minimec diesel injection pump is used on the super major engine in different versions?
Are there differences between minimec injection pump in agriculture applications compared to other application using the same Fordson Super major engine?
My question is based on this experience. I have a Super Major -64. It is in a normal shape for being used for some thousand hours. In other words the engine is not perfect but OK. Easy to start and no problematic oil consumption etc.

It has been equipped with a minimec injection pump that originally comes from some other application. There are traces of yellow paint and it has no “power take of” for tacometer cable. Instead there is a bigger drive shaft with splines. So the pump has some time before my ownership of the tractor been replaced.

When using the tractor the regulator has a rather week reaction to increased workloads. If I compensate with the throttle level the engine responds OK but if I don’t compensate the rpm is rather reduced even by minor increases of the load. It also don’t have the typical torque top at 1200 rpm. “So it behaves not relay like at tractor”.

I have borrowed and used a nother injection pump for a while and the performance of the tractor is better. So the problem is obviously influenced by the injection pump. So my question is: Is the difference in performance a result of different models of the injection pump? Or is it caused by differences in the actual conditions of each pump? (The borrowed one is recently overhauled by professional diesel mechanic. )

It would be great if someone could give some information about this so I know if a possible solution could be to overhaul my “non agriculture pump”.

These engine were used also in trucks as well as other applications.
In the truck version, (and in a car) it is driven using the accerator, but a tractor is more static revs, with the governer changing the revs to suit the load at hand.
I have 2x Major engines, 1 with mechanical governer, and the other with the truck version. They both work alright, but you just have to drive them differently.

OK, that was new info for me. In my case also the "non agriculture" one is equipped with governor. ( but maybe a more lazy one...)

The Minimec on my Super performs much the same as you describe -- the governor makes very little difference. I suspect the internal springs controlling the opening and closing weights are a little tired after many years of work. The workshop manual states that both versions of the Minimec allow a rev. range of 700 to either 1700 or 1800 depending upon which version you have. I would suggest that opening up the top speed adjustment screw a little, at the rear of the governor [the lower of the 2], might be a good idea.

About the top speed adjustment I can mention that my tractor had a very high top RPM when i bought it some years ago. A bit more than 3000 RPM, giving a top speed on road by 65- 70 Km/h. Was a bit fun, but I soon adjusted it down to the specified top RPM. It was a little "noisy" when for example working with snowploughing and during the work to some compensations by the RPM-lever and then disconnecting the clutch without remembering the small, but many, compensations I had done. I resulted in some really tests of the actual top RPM!

But, as I describe, the pump needed compensations even then, when it had a really high top RPM adjustment. So I think I investigate the springs etc a bit further.
