at last! some progress on my rebuild :)

Been abit busy lately so havent been able todo much work on her. I had my mate make me some locking tabs for the crank in the end and they came out real well

also there stainless steel so should be stronger??
here is a photo of my handworK (if it works)

They only work if you torque first, and then bend the corners up.

haha was just testing you guys to see if youd notice

just need to purchase a torque wrenth not unless father xmas brings me one
so im guessing now i have to drop the pistons in, i put new rings on those. is there anything important i need to know at this stage?

Before installing the rings on the pistons, check them for proper gap in the cylinders. Dandy Dave!

It might also be a good idea to check for ridges on the top of the cylinders. Top compression rings have a habit of shattering when meeting them.
By the way -- are 'ridge dodger' rings still available for these engines? I know they are for cars.

Having stripped your engine down to this level I would highly recommend replacing the liners. New rings on their own doesn't really make sense after all the hard work you've put in to get this far.

may thanks, will check the pisten ring gap
the engine had been rebuild and recived new liners around 8 years ago ( as well as some welding too the block i just discovered

) and did very little work after (was parked up in garden for 5 years) but the person who did it did a poor job and it was never right, wouldnt start, lots of smoke ect. the crack was in a bad way too hence the rebuild.. and the farmer who owned it previously never new oil changes existed lol
