Interesting Top Link Bracket?

I just saw this picture of a different top link bracket and wondered what the loop was for. I'm sure someone here has a story as to its purpose.

I thought it might be to hold the top link up when not in use but the mechanics don't seem to work that way.

Thank you

There seem to be a lot of "special" parts that are not listed in the parts manual and it's interesting find out their uses.

Most majors and power majors that came to New Zealand had that linkage on them ,you would not be able to use one on a super major.

As far as I know, those were optional extras for fordsons. There was one for a major, the one for a super major was slightly different.

Yeh I have seen only ever 1 super in the uk with this bracket -- as regards to how it works - complicated - I'm sure someone on here may have an upload able picture of this arrangement from the manual !

I've never seen a complete one, not even on the internet. So far, the only one that I have seen in the flesh was on my uncle's major, but the only thing that remained was the "special" top link bracket for it.

Pictures from the manual. A special hydraulic top link was used and when any implement in the ground struck an obstruction the system disengaged the clutch. The operator then took the tractor out of gear, pressed the clutch down and released it with the hand lever, then released the clutch and used the hydraulics to lift the implement. This action reset the top link and away you went again.

I have never seen one fitted to a Super Major as this might have been more difficult with Draft control.

Thought I would revive this with a new find: a Super Major with complete ACR!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWalOWBjEDU
At 08A-305446 this is one of the very last from 61, and also has power steering and raised PTO! Also seems to have a German style forward drawbar, but probably not actually sold there, for it doesn't have the serial number repeated on the channel by Ford Köln.
ACR was always available from the very beginning, the original kit was E1ADKN-995300, it was substantially modified for the Super Major. New parts include a new top link bracket, top link, cable operation in place of cranks and slight changes to the ratchet mechanism, under part no E1ADDN-995300A for a kit. No changes were required for NP tractors at the rear, the rocker used is as std on both. Tractors with live clutches use E1ADKN-995300B before Super Major's and E1ADDN-995300B for Super Major's. The differences are in the pedal to balance lever rods which are different for std and live clutches. NP tractors have extra differences in the rigging from the ratchet to the balance lever. A special top link for the pre-set linkage control was also fitted where needed.
