Condensation

Post by Gman »

I'm hoping to get my Power Major out and over the winter I know condensation builds up inside making the oil diluted. I wanted to ask since the water should be settled to the bottom can I slightly loosen the drain plugs and let some of the water out?
Thanks

Dear GMan

You can, but prepare for cold water and oil down your arm, as it can come out with a heck of a rush and it can be very difficult getting the plug back in against the flow. Have plenty of containers around if the inevitable happens!

Hi
There is a very fine line of letting the water out :eyes: when I do mine i just loosen it enough for the water to run out the threads, it may be about an 1/8th to a 1/4 inch or so slack. I kinda know mine by feel rather than sight  you can kinda get side ways play in the plugs when undone a bit. just find that sweet spot where the water trickles out, until better looking oil comes , you might get half a gallon of water  . Will be doing mine very soon here in Canada, if it ever warms up  . This might be the year she gets a full change though. Got enough good expensive used TDH from customer service work on tractors  .

Thanks all. I've done this when changing the engine oil and never no water. Thought it may also work with the trans and backend since she has sit for so long this winter.
My oil is not that old, not wanting to do a compete change at this time.
Thanks again.
