Hey guys i'm after some expert knowledge... As some of you probably know I've fitted a 4 cylinder ford 2701e engine into my major and among many other issues that need addressing at the minute I wanted to fit a tachometer but the question is which rotation do I need and will the original major tacho drive unit fit...? The hour meter is situated just above the lift pump on the right hand rear of the engine which I assume you remove to fit the drive unit.
Here's a couple of links to the ones on agriline:

Also the oil pressure thread on the side of the block is different to the original engine does anybody know what thread size it is as i'd like to get some oil pressure readings.. and hopefully there's plenty of pressure there. Another alternative is the oil filter housing but is this 100% high pressure fed?
ps. If any photos are needed just say the word. Oh and I've also studied http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb ... hp?p=24450
Thanks in Advance

Hi Stu
I have some of those 2700 series motors here. I guess you mean that hour meter pokes out on a pedestal that kinda points up and down looking from head to sump
.
If so I think you need a special adapter to go on there. I seem to think it may come from a ford cargo truck, or industrial unit. I have only ever seen one on Ebay in the 10 years I've been on, and it made good money. I don't think a major drive unit will fit. The drive type is different, major is gear drive and cargo may be a drive dog. My buddy had a mini distributor and coil on his puller to drive an electric tach from that port you talk about. My feeling is that if a major unit was so simple he would of done that instead
.
I have a county 954 here with a 6 cyl version. the rev counter on that drives from the back of the Dynamo, but I don't know what you could use for a clock as the 5000 one is in the gauge cluster for the original tractor. a guy might have to do some hunting to find a clock that would work. welcome to the conversion world were nothings ever easy
.
I think the oil pipe threads might be bsp or an imperial fine, but would have to go try checking mine in day light and get back on that
.
Regards Robert

Hi Rob
Yes I took it out of a welding rig, and yes it is on a pedestal. I had thought about converting the dynamo to one with a tacho drive but I wasn't sure if you can adjust the tacho to display the correct speed and if there is a cable to fit both.
Thanks
