Hello Fordson enthusiasts,
It's been a while since I've been here.
I recently learned on YouTube what the "F" means, cast on the right side of the transmission. Mine is a late-model New Major, and the "F" means I have a modified transmission housing for the Power Major with dual clutches.
I'm wondering if it's possible and what it would take to convert it to a live-drive tractor.
It's not on my to-do list, but it is on my bucket list.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Dual clutch
Great to see you back Henk. I'll PM you later about something. There are several gearbox castings. I'll post major details shortly, but there are three distinct castings: one used from 1217101 to 1418861, one used from 1417988 to 08C-960337 and one used from 08C-960337 till 08D-976148. Of each kind there are three variants: No Handbrake or speedo, only handbrake and handbrake and speedo. The part nos are the following:
E1ADKN-7004A - less handbrake and speedo 1217101-1418861
E1ADKN-7004C - with handbrake and speedo 1217101-1418861
E1ADKN-7004E - with handbrake less speedo 1217101-1418861
E1ADKN-7004F - less handbrake and speedo 1417988-08C-960337
E1ADKN-7004G - with handbrake and speedo 1417988-08C-960337
E1ADKN-7004J - with handbrake less speedo 1417988-08C-960337
E1ADDN-7004A - less handbrake and speedo 08C-960337-08D-976148
E1ADDN-7004B - with handbrake and speedo 08C-960337-08D-976148
E1ADDN-7004C - less handbrake with speedo 08C-960337-08D-976148
E1ADDN-7004D - with handbrake less speedo 08C-960337-08D-976148
On gearboxes you'll find the number 7007 rather than 7004 as the number in parts books includes core plugs as required and other small parts.
As for the gearbox itself it's massively different with most parts being different, only the gears and bearings behind the inner casting are the same. The inner casting also changed from E1ADKN-77010 to E91-GA-9 from 1417988 and again to E373-GA-9 from 1538222. I belive the latter two are the same except for material spec. The clutch, flywheel, balance lever and release bearing, hub and fork are also different.

Re: Dual clutch
Sandy,
Thank you for the quick and clear response.
If I understand correctly, there are many different parts, and it will be quite a task to do this.
A shorter option is to buy a Power Major.
Regards, Henk

Re: Dual clutch
I think another tractor is a good option, any between 1417988 and 08D-976148 fitted with a live clutch will do nicely, probably the most interesting to have is one of the few between 1420356 and 1425097. Just a thought. Converting one is far more difficult, and you can't do it if you don't have all the parts. I forgot that between 1417988 and 1578886 the clutch pedal is also different, as is the spring and free play.
