A couple questions

Post by Nick »

I have decided to take my dexta to pieces, due to stuck piston rings. Ive never split a tractor before, but was wondering if i could take the sump off without removing the engine completely to access the crank?

Ideal, thanks for that my friend. I was just worried that it may stress the block too much, but will give it a go!

It won't hurt the block. Its part of the tractor frame. You may have to pull the engine, if you need to have new liners installed. Although I have put finished liners in Perkins engines using freon or dry ice, to shrink them, and a liner puller in reverse. I don't remember if you can get finished liners for Dextas or not.

Ive measured the liners, and they are hardly worn, so im just going to replace the rings and bearings for now and see how it runs

Ive coupled the injectors to the pipes out of the head and it seems to squirt well out of all three. Im waiting on a local tyre company to come and replace the tyres before i move it into my proper workshop - hopefully next week!

The other thing i was going to ask, ive got to take the fuel tank off to clean it out. To do that ive got to take the steering wheel off, is the big nut in the middle normal or reverse thread?
