Dexta steering arm removal
Dexta steering arm removal
Hi, just trying to take the front axle assembly off my dexta to drop the sump. To start with, does it need to come off to take the sump off? Im trying to take the steering arms from the steering box to the drag link off, ive got the nuts off, but they wont budge. Is it just a case of getting a puller on it, or will i damage it?
Oh yay, look, another seized bolt! Lets get a hammer.....and some kano.....and some cider!

if you are just taking the drag link off then a sharp blow with a hammer will make it pop out. to remove the drop arm you will need a puller.

Good idea, will undo the ends and try them before the puller on the arm

If your really stuck then why not unbolt the stub axles from the cross member?
You can then swing the rods etc away and then remove the front support by unbolting the six large nuts on the sump.
It will be all heavy but you won't damage anything.

Re: Dexta steering arm removal
Im not worried about damaging everything, as im going to replace most things. So, i have just cut the drag links in half - easy! Ive got to order a load of stuff monday for it so i will just put two new ones on with new ends etc. Everything was rusted solid, i couldnt move anything so im going to have to add heat to get the old track rod ends out of the arms etc.
At least i can do the engine now, later I will create a new post on the restoration, you will love the pictures of it in the hedge!

you may regret cutting them in two! i had a replacement sent to me and was too long. i would double check the length over the phone first.
Re: Dexta steering arm removal
oh well, its done now. Anyway, where the loader used to be on it, they had been very heavily damaged and would have looked awful if i had re-used them. Where did you get the ones that were too long from? Did you manage to get the correct ones in the end?

I wont say where it came from, but i sold it on and found it was a better fit for a 1000nd series. i have got bent arms till i come across anything better. still works fine and everyone asks why fordson designed them with a bend.
