super dexta hydraulics

Post by cedwins »

new to forums !!

I purchased 1964 super dexta, hydraulics not working, changed oil & clean caseing & filter, changed pump
lid stripped, cleaned all adjustments done, new seals still no good, oil does pump out of bleed screw on top of diverter valve! no oil to auxilary services & no chance of movement to lift arms!

HGV mechanic with farming upbringing!

Run out of ideas HELP ! :scratchhead:

Hi, when you say about the diverter valve, do you refer to the auxillery services knob? as that does seem to turn and the shaft seems the same all round!
the lever on the top that controls the flow is different and could be put in the wrong way round!
would this effect it?

hi i bin away for 2 wks just got back /i see you have had the service valve to bits an turned it
but still no good /when it,s out u can tell if it,s in wrong by lookin inside where it sits and workin
out write way to put together ,if that makes sence???????
other thing could be the back pressure vale on outlel filter got a small bit of crap in ,or a small bit o
filein in the valve an not alowin pressure to build??but you need to take all the hyd top off to do this
if u goin this far you might as well take out inlet filter out an clean ????plus take pump out an get it checked

good luck ,, hope it works out soon for you ,,, davy

Hi, I have set up all the adjustments as they should be, also removed cleaned & checked the inlet filter & pressure return valve, and have also tried 2 different pumps!

possibly got the chance of another gearbox lid with all the bits in it, havent seen what its like though and will cost £200 do you think this reasonable and maybe the route to go?

My 2nd hand hyd top cost £155+VAT from a dealer, 2 years ago.

Unless yours is badly corroded or obviously mechanically damaged, I would be inclined to repair it. Most of the working bits are readily available. Have you been through it iaw the workshop manual?

Have you checked the unloader valve? It's in the lift cylinder casting, in a bore above the control / spool valve. You will need to remove a plate and a plug from the rear of the casting to access it..... they are bad to stick up with age... and it's an easy thing to overlook....

You can buy a lot of spares for £200.00, so if you are still having problems I would download the information from the following sites:-

http://www.fordson-dexta.de/downloads/section8.pdf

http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/manua ... aulics.htm

Remove the whole top cover to the workbench and completely strip it down and examine all the components. With the cover off you can clean the pump strainer and remove any debris from inside the axle casing. Look for any clevis pins or links which may be worn and replace them and rebuild it as per the manual. There is a 5/16” dia. control pin, which acts on the cam of the control lever (pt. No. 49), which is often worn and should br replaced Kits containing “O” rings and seals are available for about £10.00.

I'm in California. I just pulled apart the hydraulics. Where is the best place to purchase seals and gaskets?
It would be great to have the hydraulics working
