How to install Temp Gauge on S/Dexta?

Post by nms-georg »

Moin Moin (thats what we say in northern germany :)

Got today my new temperature gauge from Agriline as I didn't have one for my super dexta. But, how to install it?
Where do I need to install the cable to measure the temperature? Tried to find it but nothing looks like it could be the right one...
Thanks, George

Hi George,
Are you aware of the workshop manuals downloadable from fordson-dexta.de?
They're your best friend

Hi Boys!
Thanks a lot, found it. I searched somewhere in the enigine, but now I found it...

Now I have an other problem. I bought my temp gauge at Agriline in the UK. It came with a thread:

and an adapter for a bigger thread:

which looks like this in the end:

But now my Problem. There was a sensor screwed in which looks like this:

The new thread (original) is to small. The adapter is to big...

What can I do now? I don't want to make a bigger hole in the engine... Tried also to buy a new adapter but no shops in my area offer one...

How does the gauge works? Is the temperature transfered to the gauge only by the small wire inside? Will it work if I cut the new sensor and fix it to the old one? Or will the new gauge breake after this?

Thanks George

Hi George

Your last picture shows the oil pressure switch located on the block which you have obviously found. The sensor in the first pictures is fitted towards the front of the engine on the left above the water pump. There maybe the remains of the old sensor still in there. Please do not cut the sensor off as it is attached to a very thin tube filled with gas/ether, once damaged or cut you can throw it away. Look for the part that houses the thermostat and on the side of that part you will find the hole where the sensor fits. Look it up in your work shop manual.

Hi Mervyn
I took it out here (red circle):

It must be the right place - but you are may be right that it is the wrong sensor. The old owner screwed it maybe in just to get it closed ( it haven't been in operation)...

Ok, so I have only the option to find somebody who can produce a special adapter for me... Will try...

Understand, its not really possible to cut it if its filled with gas... :(

Good night...

Good Morning George

Thats the right hole you have indicated with the red circle :D . The sensor in your first picture is what you should have. What you are saying George is that the adaptor thread is larger than the hole in the housing? Can you measure the small nut and see if it fits into the hole. Something does not look right there :o . The water temp gauge that I have does not have a bigger adaptor nut and the smaller nut looks similar to that of yours. Could that gauge not be for a Fordson Major :?: . Hopefully someone with a Major might be able to put some light on the issue. Maybe you should contact Agriline and explain it to them.

Good luck
Mervyn

Talk to Agriline, it is their problem. If you have problems with parts you must talk to your supplier.

If you do not get a satisfactory answer, e-mail me or send me a PM. Unless we keep talking to suppliers we will never get the right parts.

I think that you have a Ferguson gauge.

Hi Guys!
the sensor which was screwed in ha sa thread of 17.5mm. But I'm not sure if this is a original one or if somebody make it bigger years ago...

The small one (original delivered with my gauge) is 15.5mm and the adaptor has a thread of 20.5mm...

Nothing fits in nothing :(

Will speak to Agriline tomorrow if they put maybe the wrong temp gauge in the right box?!

If anyone has an other idea, just let me know...

Thanks, George
