I'm new here so just thought I would introduce myself. I'm in Drouin Australia.
I just purchased a '59 Fordson Dexta in good working order although in need of a little TLC.
The pressure cap for the radiator is broken and all the radiator hoses are pretty much perished - so that's the job for this weekend. All new hoses and a pressure cap.
Then the right wheel break doesn't appear to work - looks like it may have seized as there is little movement in the break shaft.
I found the serial number - but it's pretty much painter over so much it's impossible to read.
Hi Ben..., thanks, It is the white electricalsticker to the enginewarmer, it,s something we use in Norway at winters below twenty minus degrees. On that picture the sticker is hanging loose, but it is mounted for now.
Well - probably no surprise - but I gave the cooling system a flush with a cleaning product on the weekend and water started spewing out the radiator. So, I just ordered a new radiator! It seems that the pump and thermostat are working okay though - so hopefully with a new radiator and hoses i'll finally have a properly functioning cooling system.
I did notice this weekend that oil has started leaking out of the right wheel hub - at quite a rate too. I'm pretty sure that now means there isn't a single seam/join that doesn't leak oil. At least it's consistent.

hi Mark, I am degree, did also bought a new radiator for my Dexta, learned that the lower part of it become bad of all dirt from many year. --concern of the oil leak in your wheel hub?? - I think it is the innerseal who is leaking, this seal stopp,s the oil from diff/hydr. and the oil will find their vay throw the greas for the bearing and also out of the outerseal then. if booth this seals need to change(they mostly are) you have to break the collar sitting on the axle, buy new and varm up the collar, until color canges into darkblu.

I have done some reading on the axle seals - and it sounds rather involved. I'm pretty good with my hands but mechanical repairs are fairly new to me. Do I need any special tools to do this job or is this something I can do with standard spanners, torq wrench, hammer, screwdrivers, that sort of thing? I did read of people using hydraulic presses and the like. Scarey.
I'm just tossing up whether with my limited experience I'm better off taking it to the mechanics to get it fixed or tackle it myself. Of course, if I take it to the mechanics I'll never learn.
I guess I would like to get a feel if this is an involved and complicated process or is this something I could tackle with some patience, lots of reading and a steady hand. What would you do in my position?

Hi Mark, well I think you will be able to do this by yourself, (big interess is a strong force ) but as alvays it is good to have long experience and skill,s to solve and understand every position in a repair of something, so if you pick up all tip,s in several treads, I think you can do it by yourself then. As I knew, I do not think you need some special tools. God luck with it. mikkel
Well - I installed the new radiator today - and it's a little different to the original - It seems to be about 10mm narrower, and the bolt holes on the bottom are a fraction closer together and the whole radiator sits slightly to the right (from the driver's perspective). It screwed into the chassis okay (I had to file a mm or so off the sides of the bolt heads to make them fit into the radiator) and seems firm. I figured I could just use a longer bolt with a spacer on the left side to make up the difference when I put the nose back on. Although, the fan cowling definitely won't fit - so for now I'm running it without the cowling.
Has anyone else had similar problems with new radiators? It says on the packaging it's for a Dexta, so you would assume it would fit.
Anyway, all the new hoses are on and it seems to be functioning okay.

Hi Mark, when I mounted my new radiator it hapens with me too, but I did rise the radiator with thicker rubber underneth, so the fan cowl did fit exact.
