Hello Everyone and Happy Holidays.
I have a 57 Dexta which is blue with white wheels. I have noticed most of the Dextas have orange wheels. What is the reason of two different colored wheels???
Thanks,
Randy
Orange or White
Re: Orange or White
Happy Christmas and welcome to the board.
All Dextasand Super Dextas were painted Empire Blue, with orange wheels, up untill the introduction of the 'New Performance' Dexta in 1963. NP Dextas were pained a slightly ligher shade of blue and had light grey wheels.
So if you have a 57 Dexta (check the serial number to date your Dexta - see the 'general' section on the front page of this website (not the forum!), strictly speaking it should have orange wheels.

Tractors exported to the USA may have grey wheels as part of the colour scheme from standard. Super Majors were painted with Ford Grey tinwork and blue castings.

Re: Orange or White
Hellow Randy, I've got a '61 and has orange wheels. I have to say that I prefer the light grey; however, when I get to restoring her, she'll very likely go back as close to original as possible and that would mean orange.
Re: Orange or White
I think you should paint it back to whatever suits YOU.
My observation over the years is that most of the dextas in the usa were painted Blue, with wheels, mudguards,
and the grilles sprayed white.....Usually as the paint peels , you can find traces of the orange/red on the wheels
underneath the white. And the blue is usually there underneath the white on the fenders. Don't know if the 'paintover'
was done at the factory, or they were done here in the USA.....I've always suspected Ford in USA was repainting them.
The dextas often had a 'FORD 2000 DIESEL' decal on each side of the hood/bonnet also.
I painted mine to suit me ...kubota orange on the wheels, blue fenders.......But if I change my mind, a tin of white and a pack of wet/dry sandpaper isn't too expensive.
Cheers and good luck with your project.
