Differences between a Dexta and Ford 2000?

Post by lectricman »

Hello all, I just have a quick question regarding the differences between the Dexta's and the later model Ford 2000's. I don't know much about the Dexta's as I own a Major, but my dad has a early 70's model 2000. Looking at pictures, I have noticed some similarities and was just curious. Thanks!

It is a completely different tractor, bit like saying what are the differences between a Dexta and a Major. :D

Ford threw everything "Old" out in 1964, including the factory and set up a new factory at Basildon. The old Dagenham production line went to Spain and Super Majors continued to be built there und the name Ebro. The new tractor was billed as a "World" tractor and was basically the same tractor wherever it was assembled, Antwerp, Highland Park or Basildon.

Those three factories assembled tractors from parts made at all three locations and shipped between them. Basildon made all the engines and hydraulics, Antwerp, transmissions and axles, Highland Park, Select-O-Speed transmissions.

The new tractors bore no resemblance to what had gone before although, to confuse the issue, Ford initially named them, Ford Dexta 2000, Ford Super Dexta 3000, Ford Major 4000 and Ford Super Major 5000. After 1968 the old names were dropped. The new tractors had different engines, different gear boxes and different rear axles, even the seats were different!
