lift pump problems

Post by dextasix0 »

hi all i have been trying to get my dexta to start today and im having a spot of trouble. it feels like the lift pump isn't working properly, i put a new one on and when i use the hand leaver there is minimal to no resistance or vacuum/ pressure ?? i also turned it over with the pipes off the pump (the one behind the lift pump. fuel pump??) and nothing was coming out the top outlets, anyone got any ideas??? sorry if this makes no sense im new to this and im probably getting the terminology wrong.
thanks in advance

Hi Ad
What sought of fuel flow are you getting from the pipe coming from the fuel filter to the left of the lift pump that feeds into the lift pump? When last did you replace the fuel filter cartridge and you may have read from previous threads about the little filter inside the tank which could also be blocked with gunge. From my experience, which is limited there may be a air lock in the fuel filter which can be checked if you remove the little bolt on the top of the cup holder, in front of the bolt that supports the cup I think it is a 10mm bolt not sure what the imperial size is.

Good luck Mervyn

Hi Mervyn,

Having just had a similar problem I think it is a blocked tank filter. May I suggest one of these http://www.bigdug.co.uk/tools-accessori ... ump-pp9349 to help drain the tank down. The tap unscrews quite easily, but you need to remove the cover plate just below it. Get get ready to catch the residue in a bowl. While you are at it pour some more diesel in to clean out the tank as much as possible, it amazes me how the black slime 'diesel bug' organism can grow in such a hostile environment. Apparently it lives in the interface between water and diesel and lives on oxygen from the water and hydrocarbons in the fuel...amazing. The filter is quite delicate so do not wire brush it, I used compressed air and some clean diesel to clean it up.

Good luck with it
