Hi,

Fordson parts manual (F001566/10/63) has 702592 listed as the end of Jan/62 serial number which should put your Dexta right about the middle of January/62.

Would be really interesting to see your casting date codes and the motor serial number?

Regards,
Les

Yes, the lists are very confusing.

Here is a collection of what I have been able to put together from Ford publications>>

Nov/57 to 31Oct/61>>>>957E1 to 957E93371
1Nov/61 to 31Dec/61>>>>09A312000 to (about 09A317000)
1Jan/62 to 31Dec/62>>>>09B700000 to 09B731469
1Jan/63 to 31Jan/63>>>>09C731470 to 09C735042
1 Feb/63 to 31 Dec/63>>>>09C900000 to 09C934024
1Jan/64 to 30Sep/64>>>>09D904000(about) to 09D928248

Unable to find recorded numbers for the end of Dec/61 or the beginning of Jan/64.

Any corrections or extra info most welcome.

Les

Looks like your casting codes fit with a Jan 62 tractor, except your gearbox, which was cast on 30/12/1958, (unless that B is an F!).

Your engine no looks correct for the rest of your dates. What is your engine casting code, see Les's thread top of Dexta forum?

No the gearbox is P30B it is very clear to read on the casting
my father thinks its been changed but a man in a parts shop said it was likely one casted and left over and used years later :scratchhead:
(I wouldnt be so sure)

Sure looks like the right format as in the 22nd of Oct/Nov/Dec of 1961 and fits with the tractor build date of Jan/62 but....it begs some questions of the accuracy of the engine date codes!!!
Either I've posted the wrong letter representing a month or... maybe somewhere along the line the date codes where changed???
So much yet to discover about Dextas!!

On the gearbox>>>
There were a couple of changes to the gearbox between '58 and '62 including gear ratios.
Easiest to look for is the range gear stick. The early ones had just a bump at the top but later there were threaded with poly or bakelite knobs that screwed on. Have to take the cover off to look at the underside of the sticks and the shape and size of the opening to learn more. I have that info. here somewhere.

Also on the brake side some gearboxes had T3 (Super Dexta '62) and others T4 (petrols '61 and '62) cast just below the 957E7505 and above the date code but haven't a clue what the difference is..!
Mind checking what you have?

Thanks,

Les

My Dexta is about a couple of months younger than JDH's and my engine code is L181 (18/10/1961?) which seems to fit with my engine# 1495**** & serial# & casting dates which are mostly Nov1961.

Thanks Ben,
Would you mind looking to see what T number you have on your gearbox?
They may be an indication of the different changes and has got me curious?

JDHDexta,
Looks like your gearbox has been changed alright. Might have the older gear ratios?
PTO ratio to engine revolutions should tell.

The P221 number that you posted...Did it come from behind the injection pump and is it quite clear? Could it be a T, D or B?

Thanks Guys,
Les

wel chap's

les
yeah its from behind the injection pump its P221 for sure,it was very clear to read,
the dead give away about the gearbox was the gasket at both ends, wel it wasnt a gasket  it was jst slabbered with silicone :curse:

will the older type gearbox upset the live drive or did you get the older ones in live drive?? :scratchhead:

And thanks very much ben & les for all your great info..

Parts books show live drive (2 stage clutch) to be available from the beginning (Nov 1957) so a different gearbox should not change it.
