lower radiator hose heater

Has anyone used a heater in the lower radiator hose of a Super Dexta as an aid to cold weather starting? If yes, how well did this work?
Looking at the hose routing, I am not sure the coolant would circulate back to the engine. It might only circulate from the hose to the water pump and from there go to the radiator, which would not be very helpful.
