When I first started restoring my '59 Dexta, I remember several warnings about keeping all of the fuel lines, fuel pump, injection pump, and fuel injectors squeaky clean. I've tried to do that, but am now wondering about the best way to get the crud off the injectors.



With any other part, I'd probably just soak it in kerosene or gas, then spray with detergent and rinse. I have to assume that this would not be the best way to clean the injectors. So, any tips?

Also, while I was working at getting my lift arms off the cross-shaft, I was also stripping, scraping, etching, priming and painting the wheels for my 8N and Dexta. I think everything looks pretty good, but I'm glad all that work is behind me.



Lastly, the Picasa photo journal I've been keeping for the Dexta restoration has hit the magic 500 photo mark. So, I've had to start a new journal. Ultimately I will have two jounals for the Dexta - one of the teardown, and the other of the painted parts and reassembly. Here's the link to the second journal.

Hi Don , following your Dexta rebuild with interest, as at some point in time I will have to sort out my Super Dexta. As for your Dextas injectors, rather than cleaning them, I would suggest that you send them off to a diesel repair specialist to get them rebuilt and recalibrated as this is definitely not a DIY job.Like that colour Orange on your Dexta rims! Injectors can be cleaned using ultrasonic cleaners ..; available at the injectors workshops.
Seen the picture above : nstalling new injector nozles is recommended.

since the black on fuel injectors is just carbon
couldn't you burn it off?

I've reviewed Agriline's product listing and did not find any listing for fuel injectors. That surprised me. My thought is to have them either remanufactured or replaced. Any suggestions as to where I might have this done?

I've used Southern Counties reconditioned Injectors in my Super and they've been good. I've always had excellent service from them over the years.

We may well be sending our injectors and pump for servicing (in the UK), what sort of price should we expect to pay? Southern counties is £21 per injector which was in the ball park but what about the pump? We have a mechanical pump not sure if it would make any difference to the price.

If I remember correctly my vacuum governed fuel pump was £180. It was in poor condition having stood outside for 15years. That included new bearings, seals, lift pump(with solid cast cam following arm - not one made from bent sheet or similar), diaphram, full clean, recal and test. Have a word with Peter Strong he's a good guy, loves old kit.

Ouch!
Ours is fully functional at the moment and has been in regular use for a long time. Will have to make some phone calls, my Father was offish about £63 for the injectors.

I guess it depends on what you want doing! Peter reconned my spare pump for £120 but that didn't include a new lift pump. If it's just a service and a recal doubtless it would be less. A exchange pump from Agriline is £300 ex VAT - put's it in context

I have just had my '57 Dexta injector pump reconditioned.

I'm reeling at the cost of £300, however, according to the guy who did it said half of the insides needed replacing!

I'll never know if that was true or not, but he is recommended as being damn good at his job.

Time will tell
