Piston/Con Rod Orientation

Hi,

Sorry if this sounds like a totally stupid question, but it is one that is sticking in my mind.

I am soon to start re-assembling the engine in my dexta.

Upon cleaning the con-rod assemblies, I noticed they have 1, 2, 3 stamped into the casting.

Firstly: Which end of the engine does number 1 go? Flywheel end, or waterpump end?

Secondly: Does it matter which way round the conrods go? I seem to remember Perkins or something similar stamped into the sides of them, does this need to face flywheel end, or waterpump end?

Sorry for the stupid questions, but you never know if you don't ask!

Thanks in advance...

No 1 is at the waterpump end.

Numbers stamped on the Big ends of the con rods go opposite the camshaft.
