testing started motor

Post by dexta61 »

Can I test my starter motor by bypassing the relay and direct connecting the battery to the power connection on the starter motor?
Or is there a test to check if he is still ok?
I just bought a DEXTA

you may find the threds on the stud will be damaged due to the high current. i would connect to the stud first then connect up the leads to battery then connect to the castings somewhere as any effects from arcing wond damage anything. or cant you put a spanner across the solenoid? (not a good spanner) but its best to replace the solenoid if this has died.

hope this helps.

The solenloid still clicks, and battery is charged, but startmotor is not rotating. For this reason I am looking for a test to by pass the solenoid and test direct on the startmotor.

the starter might have got stuck on a burnt spot. try giving it a few knocks with the base of a hammer. can just move the starter round slightly.

Make sure the tractor is not in gear!!!

Take a short lead from the power terminal on the battery and touch it to the small terminal on the solenoid. The starter should spin.

If all your leads are clean and shiny and the battery terminals are clean then your starter could be faulty. It would be best to have this checked by an electrician if you do not have the correct test equipment.

On a negative earth the power terminal is the positive.
