Engine machining work

Post by russelm »

I need to get the following done to my Dexta engine:

Crank re-ground
New liners fitted, bored and honed

So far, I have been quoted £330 inc vat (£15 per journal, £14 to remove and fit each liner, £30 to bore and hone each fitted liner and £45 to reface the block when complete)

Is this about right price wise?

I am supplying the liners (came in my engine kit)

russellm,

I had exactly the same work done and paid similar prices and a local engine repair machine shop. Think I got the block cleaned aswell in with the price. Pretty sure i paid between £300 - £350.

The place did race engines, when I gave then the bore tolerances out of the workshop the guy said he didn't want them. Instead he wanted one of the pistons and said he'd machine the bores to suit the piston.

Engine was tight at first and struggled to start but soon bedded in and now fires pretty much first piston up with no heat or primer pump required.
