I have a thread up in the Major Forum on horns. All joking aside, I wonder if the manufacture /supplier changed though production. It appears to be that the Clear Hooters horn was used at least on the earliest models. What brings this up is that I picked a horn off of a Dexta, in a salvege yard that looks to be original, but is not a Clear Hooters. It has a number 71 stamped in the back and that is it. Can any of you Dexta guys chime in on the subject. Or are horns rare on the Dextas also. Dandy Dave!

I think Ford may have used local suppliers

The horns fitted in Great Britain were the same on all tractors from Major to Super Major, Dexta, Roadless, County et.al They were common on cars of the period, trucks and other makes of tractor.

They were all Lucas units and came in a Lucas box with a Ford sticker.

I thought we had it pretty much confermed that the horn supplier was originally not Lucas, as the ignition systems and generators/regulators were, but was Clear Hooters, which is a British company. Most of the early Majors that I have seen that have a horn, have a Clear Hooters. Now with your input, I wonder if the replacments were Lucas? Is this what you remember from your days at the dealership Brian? Or were horns never installed at the Factory? And/ or only installed as an add on at the Dealer? On the Super, and Power Major, it seems it would have been a pain to install the Horn button as it is in the dash below the steering wheel. You would have thought that they would have had everything Lucas, and yet, things like the headlights on my PM were supplied by Buttlers. From what I can gather, The Clear Hooters horns rusted out after a few years. I think the only thing that saved them on our tractors is the location, and if they were slobered with oil as I have found, that, although not intentional, saved them. This may seem nit picking to the last nit, but anyone who wants a completely original tractor as it left the factory it would be somewhat of interest to them. I guess I'll keep digging until I'm a site horn expert. Dandy Dave!

If anyone takes "Tractor and Machinery" there is indisputable proof that Clearhooters were fitted to Massey-Ferguson tractors on page 3!

This is where Stefan has his in front of the RH steering arm - I trust him to have it correct.

mine was the same type in the same place. two new wires soldered on and works fine.

This horn is on a '61 Petrol Dexta.



A little different but in the same place.

ive got a horn on my dexta, it looks identical to the one in the first picture, although im not sure if it works yet!
