Live clutch

Hi,
The Dexta I just got is supposed to have the double clutch but..
it works the same in either yoke position (as a single clutch).
It is harder to push down than other Dextas so I am wondering if it was not aligned correctly and is it possible that both clutches are being separated at the same time?
Any others experienced the same?

Does the PTO stop in the forward position?

It is possible that the rod has been adjusted too tight. I would slacken back the rod first of all until you can just get the transsmision into gear without grating, in the first hole, then move to the second hole and see if the PTO stops.

The usual problem is a stuck PTO plate. Mine sticks after standing around but putting it on the topper soon clears it.

Yes, the PTO stops in the forward position and it takes a bit of a heavy foot to push it down.
And it feels the same in the 2nd position, just have to lift my foot higher!
I have adjusted the rod as per the manual.
I have not worked anything on the PTO yet but will put the brush cutter on and head to a willow patch!

Today, while checking the operation of the clutch(es) on the Dexta, I noticed that the PTO stops first and then the transmission, with the clevis in either hole!??
Is it possible that the respective fingers for each clutch were just adjusted incorrectly?

Sounds like the gearbox is in backwards!

It sounds like a clutch problem or could be a thrust bearing/hub fault.

Regarding the PTO stopping first and tranny last...

I was wondering if...

It would be possible to mix up the 2 clutch discs or even adjust the bolts on the fingers to cause the PTO clutch separate first?

Not ready to split it yet as I have a Super Dexta engine to finish first.

I seem to have the same problem as Les, My PTO stops first when the clutch is depressed halfway, then the drive stops last. This is a pain when using the hyd. as i have to keep putting the gearbox in neutral to use the hyd. When im not moving, also the pto stops when changing gear.

Any ideas anyone?

The clutch fingers are at two different heights and there should be no way they can be mixed. There is 3/4" between the transmission fingers and the PTO fingers so that the transmission fingers contact the thrust bearing first.

If the PTO plate was badly worn then the fingers would come close to the transmission fingers in height, if then, the adjusters on the transmission fingers were worn away the thrust bearing might contact the PTO fingers first.

Wear in the linkage on the transmission fingers could be another cause.

Do not think there is any way that the thrust bearing contacts on the fingers can be adjusted to such a point that the PTO contacts first.

Another point, clutch free play is obtained by adjusting the pedal stop on the clutch shaft not by altering the clevis as on a single clutch.

I have had a good look at the clevis linkage on the bell housing since my last post. And there is only one hole in the linkage. So i guess my dexta is not live drive. Would this be correct?

Yes, unless someone has swapped out the clutch rod. What makes you think she might be live drive?

When i push the clutch in with my airblast sprayer on, it stops the drive to the pto but it doesnt continue to drive the tractor on when its winding down. It seem to take the drive out between the pto and the gearbox also. Is there any other way of telling other than the clevis?
