Tracked down a strange hissing sound I could hear to a gas leak past the copper washer. Have been unable to source a replacement apart from a shim with the same internal dia. What other options/ sources do you guys know of?

Thank you, Rob, very interesting! The originals and parts book pictures are simple circular washers but those look like a better design, by the website I take it that they also fit an MF 35, which gives me another range of local sources to try before anything else. Thanks for your generous offer, I will let you know if I need to take you up on it.
Cheers, Derek.

I came accross this problem when doing my rebuild, and i seem to recall it has been discused before, so others may have come accross the same problem. On my head rebuild i fitted the copper (3 hole) gaskets, and they just would not seal the combustion chamber, as it happened i still had the old copper rings ,fitted them , problem solved. My tip would be not to remove the plates in the first place. or you could try fitting two gaskets. Jim

Hi, Jim, I wouldn't have removed the cap but a leak was visible when the engine was running, it blew sooty diesel (?) out in two places, and you could hear the hiss. The washer seems to be corroded so I need to find a replacement. I'll see if I can find the old thread on this.
Cheers, Derek.
