I saw it earlier tonight on TradeMe, Derek. Casting date code looks like 21/10/63. I'm interested in the tractor, but not the other stuff listed with it.Not too far away either as its just over the other side of the Bombay Hills(Local geographical boundary between New Zealand and Auckland

)Looks better than the Dexta diesel currently on TradeMe in Te Awamutu. Will follow the auction.TSG.

I like it and all the toys!
Anyone know what the 'Bilchrome' casting on the engine represents? (photo 11)
It doesn't seem to appear on some of the earlier engines.

I am applying for a Royal Warrant for a new charity.
"The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Petrol Dextas".
Why do these New Zealand tractors get so much ill-treatment? Dottys bonnet had been used as a trampoline.
I have added it to the list.

A TradeMe user has advised the seller to checkout this rather good internet site that specialises in Fordsons including the petrol Dexta.

Apparently they are quite"rare", and I suspect they might think its worth more than they originally thought.

The previous petrol Dexta which looked in better shape, only got to about NZ$1000 and had a NZ$1500 reserve and was not sold at auction. As for petrol Dexta's, about 2 years ago. one from near here was sold, possibly 1 owner, low hours, shed stored and only used in a vineyard and completely original.(RSPCPD not required.)Only found out after it was sold

Locally, there is a Super Dexta Diesel that I go past quite often that is getting covered in Blackberrys that looks worthy of saving/recovering.(Possibily a NPSD)TSG.

Well Derek, it looks like I'm the owner of a petrol Dexta! At NZD$399.

Now I have to figure out how I'm going to get it home.Looks like I'm going to break my "New Years Resolution" and go over the Bombay Hills to recover the Dexta

Might have to borrow a braked trailer and bring it home behind the L200, going over the Bombay Hill will be fun

When I get it home, I will get the numbers off it and post them on the Petrol Dexta Register for "Our Leader"

Ah the bombay hills. I lived in Auckland for 23 years and was suprised at the number of people who just don't leave town to see the rest of New Zealand.
For those who live overseas the Bombay hills are small taking just 10 minutes to cross using the 4 lane motorway, and just 50km from central Auckland. They have become the great divide seperating Aucklanders from the rest of the country. For South Islanders (Aucklands population is greater then the whole South Island) the hills need to be bigger seeing Aucklanders as a bunch of fat cat slickers they call Jaffas. Mind you I'm not in a hurry to move north of the Bombays again. Aucklands just like any other big city now with too much crime and attatude for my liking. A shame because the work opportunities there are great.
Love to see some photos TSG.

Kev, tractor was listed as "Ford Dexta" on Trade Me, so if it wasn't for Derek I would have missed it too. Will add it to my signiture when I have collected it.Pjjms , in relation to the "Jafa's", up here we only use 1 "f'", as 2 "f"s would be too generous!! Hope to get the Dexta on Saturday and get some more pictures onto the forum,As for now its about 30 c +, I think I need a Monteiths Summer Ale

Its home!!

Out of the Hunua's and into the Waikato. Hunua Road is very similar to the road over the Tataka Hill! Used the local garage's truck to bring it home.Dexta is complete but needs work, has oil and water, all wiring needs to be replaced, front axle pin is OK, but the steering box needs a lot of work

I'm happy, vendors happy too!

Photo's will come eventually ,Kev.The Dexta is now running, needed a new rotor and the sparkplug leads were on wrong (1/4/3/2) It may have been used as a boat tractor, the front cowl and bonnet have that much rust that they are beyond repair. The rear guards are OK but the support/frame is completely rusted away.Rear axle seals leak, but brakes and Diff/Hydraulics work good.Gearbox is OK, but 1/2/3/R lever worn. If its Live PTO, then PTO clutch is not working, but main clutch is OK.The engine runs, but I will do a compression test, as it might have a burnt valve and might have to do a "Henry the VIII".Front pulley seal leaks, and timing chain sounds loose.Radiator is OK but needs new water pump , thermostat and radiator hoses. As for the electric's, there all pretty munted, dizzy, generator and starter all need to be rebuilt, all wiring needs to be replaced. The front axle is OK, just the bush needs to be replaced, but the steering box has to be rebuilt,as the nut under the steering wheel is totally worn out.The Carb just needs a good clean out/reset and the throttle linkage needs to be deseized.Rear tyres are good, but fronts need 3 rib 6.00/16.Apart from that it only needs paint and a new seat!

Oh.. and the bonnet can't be used for a "Trampoline", because you would fall through it!

Hows the tractor coming along?
Re: Another petrol

Pjjms, very slowly, planning on getting it running properly before dismantling it.Will start with getting the carb sorted out, has a lot of movement in the throttle shaft. The distributor is well dizzy, as the mechanical advance is "variable"or be it somewhat random. Then it will be onto the governor...and everything else.

Just as well that Derek sent the petrol Dexta supplement, as thats going to come in real handy

Hows it going in Nelson, as there have been the odd quake in Blenheim and Wellington? and with your Dexta?TSG.(Picture's to come soon, when I get some spare time.)

These things take time.
Mine is not moved while I have been finishing off a Nuffield. Will progress through winter.
No problem with the earthquakes here and while we did feel both the big shakes no damage. Just horrific what they are going through in Christchurch. We do have a lot of people from Christchurch in town with kids moved to local schools.

Hi Peter,
Ive seen a few photos of your Nuffield on 'the other forum'
She looks a bit dusty still hopfully she'll be running soon so you can move on to the Dexta.
I've an intrest in maybe getting a Nuffield 4/60 or 10/60 to restore and run although I'm still toying the option of a Major to park next to the Dexta however my dad (Eddie) has quite an attachment to Nuffields as he was one of thier field engineers.
