Do I lose Proof meter and tach?

I live right by a heavy trafficated road, as a safety measure I have put some side lights/indicator lights, extra set of front wide beam lights, one rear wide beam light, a emergency ligt on the roof and the stock front lights. This is to much for the chargins system, and I have battery drain, even with the engine running.
If I change to a more modern alternator, would it then lose the proof meter and tach?

I don't see why you should, as the proof/tacho are entirely mechanical, with no electrical input (apart from the dash light)

If you convert to an alternator, and your existing dynamo is positive earth you will have to change over to a negative earth system.

If you are considering converting to an Alternator then take a look at the top of the Dexta section, third item down 'Looking for informnation...'. There is my contribution on wiring up a Dexta with Alternator, turn lights etc. This may help you.

Tacho is driven off the fuel pump so the drive wont be lost
