Gear Stick

I know this has been posted about before, but i cannot find any information that i feel answers my questions, i have a 62 super dexta with gear shift problems, not that the gears is given problems but the gear stick and selector cups to be exact.
when i put the tractor into gear and head off down the road the gear stick slips out from between the 2 cups and also if you are not overly carefull when changing gears you can sort of force it into a position where when you release the clutch pedal the engine will stall ( stuck between 2 gears maybe?).

My question is if i build up the end of the gear stick with weld this should prevent the shifter slipping out of position, but will this prevent the tractor getting stuck between gears also? did anyone else have this problem and if so how did you repair it?

Thanks,
Niall.

Hi Niall,

I found this link on the old forum. http://dexta.20m.com/photo5.html It seems to have the answer you may be looking for.

Regards, Frank.

Niall,
If the end of the gear stick is worn, sometimes it will only move one shift rail. That puts the transmission in two gears at the the same time. That's why the engine dies when you let the clutch out. If you fix the gear stick, it should fix that problem.

Hi Guys,

I built up the end of the gear stck with weld and grinded it to fit into the forks, works great, just have to fix the hydraulics rectifying themselves now, but that is due to me using the wrong piston seal ( I think), I will go at changing that next weekend.

I had her out drawing in sticks for the fire the weekend and she worked a treat, there is something satisfying & a great feeling to see a tractor working well after putting in alot of hard work, i was well chuffed with her!
