Short radius arms

Hi, I am nearing the end of restoring my 1958 Dexta, and have just got to the stage of re-fitting the front axle.
Because I wanted a good finish on the tractor, I sourced two replacement (secondhand) radius arms, as the originals were somewhat bent!
However, I have just come to fit these to the tractor, and they are about 1 1/2" too short!
Can anyone confirm if Fordson changed the length of these arms at any time?
I know that the Ferguson arms are shorter, however I am 99% sure that these are Dexta arms, as they were still attached to the front casting , and took quite considerable persuasion to remove!
Has anyone any experience in lengthening any of these?
Any advice appreciated....
Regards,

Are you fitting them to the correct holes in the axle?

you will want the inner set of holes unless on a very wide track setting. have you got any spacers on the pivot pin? is it possible you have them the wrong way round?

John

Hi,
@ Jerry: I only have one hole in my axle....
@ John: I do have a spacer on the pivot pin, it is however at the front of the axle, the axle is pushed as far as it can go towards the rear of the pin.....unfortunately

there are 2 sets of holes. one set on the ends of the centre beam. the seconds set are on the extension pieces.

Just been to look at my dexta (She stays in the garage, the cars are outside!) and there are two sets of holes in the cross axle (not the stub axle assembly) and the radius rods are fitted in the inner set, not the ones at the end.
Hope this helps.
If you go to the Home page of Oscars and then navigate to Dexta - Dexta Owners Manual and then part4.htm#_frontwheelmaintenance there is a picture there of the front track adjustments clearly showing two pairs of Radius Rod holes.

Hi,
Below is an image of my axle on the tractor
I am beginning to wonder if I have another make of axle on my tractor, although when it was stripped back it was definitely Dexta blue and rust!
I definitely only have one set of radius rod holes, and they are on the stub axle assembly.
Any further ideas?

Sorry to say that the centre beam is not from a dexta. on the dexta the holes should be in the centre beam. might be interesting to keep it though as part of the tractors history.

Hmm, I was beginning to think that. I suspect that it is from a Ferguson TE20, no idea how it's got there though!
Fortunately I think I have a Dexta one as I bought some bits from a broken tractor some time ago.
As far as the history goes, I could keep it, but it would mean I need to lengthen my radius arms.... decisions decisions.
I think I will go with the proper Dexta axle.
Thanks,

Hi Mark,
Noticed these from a narrow Dexta on ebay:

They look similar to yours?
