Hi,
I am new to this sight. I have a 1960 Dexta that my dad had since the 1970s? and I inherited in 2003. I have been running it since I was a kid. Second gear was always a no-no on this specific tractor. The transmission had a catastrophic failure (loud clunks and metal chunks from the oil). I have not split the case yet because I am concerned about parts availability. What parts are available? Are they hard to find? Any recommendations where to find them?

I noticed that a lot of the members here are from "across the pond." I am in the United States in Colorado. Perhaps parts are more readily available there since Fordson was built there? Thoughts?

Welcome to the site.
When it comes to parts availability for these transmissions, it comes down to 2x answers.
Bearings and seals- no problem. Just get them from a bearing shop. Measurements rather than part numbers.
Gears. No longer available. Best idea is to get another gearbox, and either use that, or use that for parts.
These gearboxes are built pretty tough. Bearings and seals wear out. Gears are normally pretty good. If they have had it, chances are bad luck, been worked very hard, or been rough treated.

Hello cumminsday -I really do not know how difficoult i will be for pick up the parts from Norway, but I,d hav a complett good spare gearbox (about 1960,s Dexta) who mybee could go for sale, but I hope you can find some in your areas too.

in the United States Walts Tractor parts has gear-shafts, bearings, seals and gears.
Most likely what you have is a bad shaft.

What happens is the gears start "walking" and jump teeth. I talked to a lot of Dexta owners and previous in US. Older fellas. Learned a lot

On the Dextas, the lower shafts fail first. High humidity and water down the gear selector creates a mixture that ruins the bearings on the bottom shafts first - a phonomenon more common to the US and the South US than most places. For all who read, pull the top-cover gear selector each year and look at the fluid before running the tractor (annually). Water rises to the top and you see "milk." Change that fluid when you see this and at least every other year in high humidity and if you like to wash your tractor alot. Or wait and call Walt and Tisco for parts.

Last I checked, I could find every part for 1961.5 and later (Super D), and you had to convert the one shaft on old Dextas to the new shaft. But I could find all the parts. I also found a source on the internet for rebuilt transmissions; albiet half the price of the normal poor condition dexta. For me, I just found a transmission assembly.

Thanks for the parts info on tranny's.
We tap the moisture off the bottom every once in a while.

Really interested to hear more about your '61 Super Dexta.
Would be a very rare S. Dexta if it is all original.
