hi all, changed the oil inthe back axel last summer, been using back end loader for the last few days, when disconnecting the hydraulic pipe from the tractor i noticed the oil is already turned a milky colour is this normal , dont think there is any water getting in their. thanks in advance for any help.

Milky colour = water.

This water can come from the condensation in the rear axle or from the loader(previous oil having a lot of mixed water and loader not purged when changing the axle-oil) .
When the loader has a single-acting cylinder, the rear axle oil-content drops when operating the loader, as there is a transfer of rear-axle oil into the loader so air (with humidity) will enter the rear axle due to the underpressure. ... So after some operating-hours the rear axle has "breathed" several times...

thanks jos your reply makes sence, i never thought of purging the loader ram before use, also we had an unusally cold winter here which would have added to the condensation problem. regards ollie.

Hi i cant add to the answer jos has given , but was wondering if you could post a picture
of your back end loader as iam trying to get a make for mine without much luck,
there is no name plate ect on it . Gerry

dont think i can help you " gerry " mine has no name plate either. i think it might be home made or made by a small engineering company. Its not one of the brand names like tanco etc. Will try and post a picture tomorrow. regards ollie.
