I have used Tractol on mine, easily available and easy to apply. Old Twenty has a good type of paint so I have been informed but I have not tried it.

Use the thinners for the paint. Some people mix clear varnish with the final top coat.

Do not like Two Pack, gives the wrong finish for those who want an "original" looking tractor. There are also Health and Safety issues if you read the instructions on the tins, for hobby users.

If it's a standard Dexta - Empire Blue (New Performance Supers were different).
See http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb ... int#p14068

This paint is available from New Holland and is said to be a good match to the original. It's single pack. Perhaps not the most durable of paints, eg compared with 2 pack, and takes ages (weeks) to fully cure and harden off. But it's easy to apply and unlike 2 pack, next to no health and safety issues.

2 pack dangers should not be under estimated. It contains isocyantes and should only be sprayed in a booth using breating gear with its own air supply. Automotive paint shops are following car manufacturers and going away from it now. Water based paints are becoming much more common, but I have been told they are not easy to use.

Davy, Don't know where you are up there in Northumberland, but you could go along to one of the Lloyds New Holland dealerships and get a couple of tins of New Holland (Empire Blue) Tractor paint, and a tin of Grey primer. It won't be the cheapest you can buy, but it will be the best, and there are quite a few Lloyds up there. jim

I don't know the answer about water based paint for our tractors. I have never used it myself. From what I have been told it needs a top coat of convetional clear to get a shine. I just use enamel on my tractors, and theres some quality enamels out there now that give good results out of the gun. Mind you reading the can on that would scare you as well. The last can of orange I sprayed had something like 60% dry weight of lead! I though that stuff was banned in about everything.

I think it is important to use a good filter mask when using any spray paint, and some goggles. The eyes can absorp a lot of toxins as well.

Here is a picture of my front cowl, I sprayed yesterday. This is the colour of Sparex Empire Blue enamel paint.

Does this look ok? It's a little bit darker in reality than in the picture.

Here is a link, because I cannot insert images for some reason!! :curse:
