An update on the mods to my dexta.

I replaced the factory preheater with a Perkins Diesel Preheater/Injector combination and then replaced the starter with one from a Ford 2000 (2.5 KW) .

It starts quickly and reliably. I highly recommend the mod for anyone who wants a Dexta that starts easily. Mine has been started for years with ether for help and now starts like a new tractor.

OK, I tried to put some picture with this but can't figure out how to do it.

I used Perkins part # 2666103 from a perkins 3-cyl diesel to replace the original pre-heater and the atomizer. This part has both built in as one part. I drilled out the old prehater port and re-tapped it to 7/8-14.

The old atomizer port is now plugged with a short plug & retapped to 1/8-27 NPT plug.

I replacved the Starter with one I found on the "Yesterdays Tractor" site (http://www.ytmag.com/) Part No: S.60360)that is listed in the parts as a replacement for the original but is not as the original. It has a built-in solenoid and now I have a starter button where the Horn button used to be,
(Actually, I used the horn button as the horn is long gone from the tractor.)

Starting method is the same as given in the manual, but the tractor kicks over much faster and starts like new.
