I have wired my 59 dexta as the diagram shows. It has a 4 prong regulator. I, of course, get power to the side of the starter solenoid but not the across side. Also, when I hook up the A post on the regulator it shows the big yellow wire goes to the starter solenoid and a jumper goes to the battery side of the switch. When I use the switch the jumper wire burns off.
Any suggestions or any actual pics of the way the wiring should be. This is making me crazy.
Thank you,
Randy

Re: Wiring
The standard wiring for the starter (with a dynamo) is:

As you say the Yellow comes from the A terminal of the regulator (via the BATT terminal on the light switch).
By 'jumper' I assume you refer to the Red wire, which comes from the 'ignition' (key) switch to one terminal of the switch on the starter. A second Red wire goes from the other side of the switch on the starter to the solonoid coil.
Sounds like you have the Red on the wrong terminal on the solonoid, or else you have a short in the solonoid or the starter itself.
Suggest you check out the solonoid & starter with a multi-meter to ensure the identity of the terminals and that all is OK.
Hope you get it sorted

There's a complete wiring diag at the back of the electrical section of the workshop manual.Texasblue wrote:Hello Bensdexta, Thank you for the diagram and help, much appreciated.
